Cross ice

Nansen crossed the Greenland ice sheet in 1888 on skis as the first ever. Since then many have followed but still it is only the few who ever get the opportunity to live out the dream.
The nearly 600-kilometer kilometers above the Arctic plains, from Kangerlussuaq in the west to Isortoq in the east, cold and wind, a hard climb to the top of the ice, only white horizons, and a lot of bad food and many large blisters are what you expect.
It will not just party all the time, we get tired and sometimes can trip seem endless.
Cross None of ice with skis and sledge is the most demanding trip as KTC / Your story has on the program in 2012. Prepare yourself well, so we promise an adventure beyond the usual.

Something about the trip:

This trip is an absolute modulation 4th We reserve the right to say no to those people who have chosen the wrong turn. We do this to ensure you a successful trip without incident.

This tour can be a success we meet before departure to pack and information, and socialize. Here you also have the opportunity to meet the others as you will spend approx. 30 days on ice.
We attach much importance to good group dynamics which means more than physical fitness.
Also meet tour participants and their families and friends to socialize and pictures tonight after the trip.
The trip over the ice cap is more a project than a trip, it requires good preparation and active participation in the preparations before departure. But are you ready for the challenge, we promise you adventure in the world.

Severity:

There is no reason to underestimate the physical challenge. It demands much of you as a person. Regular training and positive attitude needed to cope with several days of skiing with sledge.
Your Adventure offers drafting of a physical preparation program towards departure.
Good humor and positive attitude are key fix. Together we must prepare ourselves for what we can meet and prepare ourselves for a tough day. This is where group dynamics come into play. We get all bad days, but from experience we know that all is forgotten under the hot shower.

Equipment:

KTC / Your Adventure stands for all common equipment, tents, sledge, Primus, safety equipment, etc. For this trip we have many demands on the personal equipment. Personal equipment list is sent out upon registration. Before the tour we will review thoroughly equipped with every participant, so you are sure you have the gear as the trip requires.

Security.

KTC / Your story brings navigation equipment, GPS, emergency locator transmitter, satellite phone, medicine bag for major and minor injuries, and security equipment and more.
Furthermore, we seek for permission to cross the ice, and seek to obtain the required extended travel insurance which covers pickup for serious injury / illness, etc.. on ice.

Trip preparation:

We spend much time in preparation for the trip. We emphasize education of participants and development of the group. As a participant you must be the most important skills before we get to Greenland, and be an active part of the group.
We offer 2 meetings in Denmark and a workout before the trip to Greenland, where we train skifærdigheder, bearings routines, safety, security and safety.

Climate:

Accommodation:

In Kangerlussuaq We live by KTC has a hostel in Kangerlussuaq and our tour operator.

On the east side are we living in Tasiilaq often at Hotel Nansen. In Isotoq We live in public housing which is the local village hall.

Touring program from day to day.

Day 1-4. Kangerlussuaq.

We meet in Kangerlussuaq, some are probably came a few days earlier, but this day we meet in the KTC for the first time. All equipment must be checked and if necessary. lost gear to be called for and obtained.

Will you get a few days before the meeting date, you can order extra night at KTC if you want it

We start with a briefing, so we pack it all with food for 4 days. The next 4 days, stands on physics tests, ski lessons, tenant routines, safety, security and safety. So we all know what will happen in all situations, we have tried our skis and gear, and know each other. It is always festive.

The last evening we arrive at KTC, where we make some good food and have fun.

Today. 5-8 Packing and Preparation

After our little workout, we know it all, then it may correct gasket start. Interrupted by briefings, one or two skiing, etc.

Day 9 First day on the expedition.

We are carried into section 666 by car. Point lies at the ice sheet where our tour starts. We follow a safe, proven route up the ice to avoid the worst cracks.
This day will be tough because we must turn to the sledge and skis while going up the glacier decreased.
Delays can occur due to bad weather.

Day 9-13

We spend some days on the climb to 1000-1500 meters and Snow. Now we are on tour and the white expanses and Tasiilaq ahead. We start quietly off to avoid damage. A good start is half the journey.

Day 13-24

We are moving forward in a cross ice and toward the top of the glacier around. 2500 ft. During weighed, we aim to visit the old radar station DYE2.
The increase is uneven it can sometimes seem flat and other times steeper. Calm begins to descend upon the group and the Arctic fever has hit us.

We reach the top of the ice sheet about 20-24 days depending on weather. Now it's only downhill.

Day 24-30

Sledge easier day by day. Day March are getting longer and we are approaching the East Coast.
As the first sign of land travel nunatakker in the distance and we get back the feeling of not being alone in the world.

Day 30-35.

Depending on conditions on the ice, these days either long or a breeze. We go through glacier-dropped at the time of year should not cause us major problems and does the last piece to the district Isortoq on sea ice.
Day 35-41

From Isotoq we fly to Tasiilaq, comfrey and over Iceland to Denmark. Everything arranged by a travel agency.

When we are in Isotoq helped us along with cleaning all equipment and have it shipped back to Kangerlussuaq, ready for next trip. Here we end the tour officially and there is time to explore a settlement, prisoners, etc. Possibly. a journey by dogsled, or what people like and time.
